it didn't hurt business in Austin? Are you kidding me? Check out this statistics. http://www.keepaustinfree.com/

I personally know one bartender who lost their job as a result of the smoking ban. I know a bar owner who owns 3 bars in Austin. All 3 are still down 30% after over a year of the smoking ban.

Houston will survive a smoking ban. I lived through the New York smoking ban and after a couple of months the bar business was right back where it was prior to the smoking ban.

Of all the cities I've lived in (NYC, LA, and Dublin , Ireland) Houston is the only one that doesn't have a ban like this already, and Dubliners smoke way more than any Americans I've ever encountered. I was actually in residence when New York and Dublin enacted their bans and Dublin pub owners complained about lagging business for about two weeks, before they started praising the measure for getting non-smokers to frequent their establishments. New Yorkers took a little longer to warm up to the idea, but eventually even the smokers I knew said it was a good idea. And I don't have to tell you how nice it is to come home from a night on the town and *not* smell like a bloody ashtray!

Hmm...I could have sworn...maybe there was just some debate about it. Either way I hope it succeeds in Houston.

There's no smoking ban in Nashville. Tennesee state law sets all rules on tobacco.
