Houston has made a respectable showing in Monopoly’s Here and Now edition. If you’ve been out of the loop, millions of internet users cast votes for months this summer to determine not only which landmarks from 22 major cities would make it onto the new Monopoly board, but the number of votes also determined the position of each city on the board. Houston’s Space Center beat out the Museum District and the Kemah Boardwalk by a huge margin to make it onto the board, taking the place of Tennessee Avenue. It shares the orange properties with Miami and Seattle. Not the greatest location, but every board game fanatic knows that orange is the best monopoly to have, and at least we beat Dallas (which took the second-lowest spot on the board). We’re just not sure why we couldn’t choose from more nationally recognizable landmarks. What’s wrong with the Astrodome?
The properties aren’t all that’s changed in the new Monopoly. Prices have been inflated to reflect current market values, ranging from $600,000 to $4 million, and you’ll now be playing with updated game pieces, like McDonald's fries and a New Balance sneaker. And if you don't know what a labradoodle is, now's a good time to learn.
