Our summer will be coming to a close soon. We’ll have the Indian Summer and fall (which, in Houston, both strongly resemble summer anyway), and then the short stint of coldish weather we like to refer to as winter. That’s time of year infamous for causing people to become ghastly pale and pack on the pounds, because, you know, finding food in the winter can be so difficult.
Granted, all we can do for that pale business is suggest that you invest in some sunless tanner. As for packing on the pounds, we’ve got a more fun suggestion. Indoor soccer, anyone? There is a little gem of an indoor arena nestled in the Heights, Kicks Indoor, that is perfect for winter play. You won’t have to deal with rain, mud, cold, bugs, etc. And the best part? They’ve got badass turf. We don’t know what it’s made of, but we really like it. A lot.
Registration for league play is going on now. The deadline Oct. 2 deadline is creeping up on us, though. The next season starts on Oct. 16. If you don’t have a team, don’t stress out. You can be placed on the house team. There is a men’s league, and a co-ed league, which is the one we prefer. There’s nothing like beating up a boy winning against a team of mostly big guys.
