Ad world honors 'Don't Mess With Texas'

100206_dmwt.jpgIn case you missed it, "Don't Mess With Texas" got some national props last week: The 20-year-old slogan won the third annual Advertising Week Walk of Fame competition, making it (officially) one of the country's best advertising catch phrases.

A variety of famous slogans were contenders in the Walk of Fame competition, including "Good to the Last Drop" from Maxwell House, "Got Milk?" from the California Milk Processors Board and "Just Do It" from Nike. (Amazingly enough, Don't Mess With Texas' co-winner was FedEx's "When it Absolutely, Positively Has To Be There Overnight." We would have put our money on "Just Do It.") As the winner, DMWT will get a plaque on the advertising Walk of Fame (yes, there is one, on Madison Avenue in New York City) and recognition in the Advertising Icon Museum (yes, there is one, in Kansas City).

TxDOT launched "Don't Mess With Texas" in 1986 to help reduce roadside litter statewide. The slogan was developed by Austin-based GSD&M.
