If we told you that the Texans would win a nail-biter over the Dolphins 17-15, would sack Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper 5 times, and Mario Williams would get 1.5 of those 5 sacks, would that be something you might be interested in? Well, if the crowd at Reliant Stadium is any indication, Houston Texans fans' interest is at an all-time high.
With the win over the Dolphins, the Texans get their first taste of victory and only the third in two years. While defeating a 1-3 team with similar offensive line woes isn't overly impressive, it's something to build upon and comes at a fortunate time as the Texans head into the bye week.
So what do the Texans need to work on before facing the Cowboys in week 6? Well, to help Coach Kubiak (because we're sure he checks here for the hard-hitting analysis), here is our Texans vs. Dolphins Report Card.
Run Offense: C
The running game continues to sputter, only racking up 65 yards on 33 carries. However, Dayne did flash some power once getting into the second level. Also, our favorite play of the game might be when Gado absolutely demolished a blitzing Zach Thomas.
Pass Offense: A-
Carr looked great despite taking some big hits in the game. Andre Johnson had a fantastic game and only a stolen ball by Will Allen keeps this group from getting an A+. Moulds and Walter produced as well, though Walter may only be remembered for a holding call on a nice run by Dayne.
Run Defense: B+
Demeco Ryans has been a monster this season, and he continued his reign of terror against the Dolphins as he racked up seven solo tackles and a half sack with Mario Williams. By the way, anyone else think Mario should treat Demeco to dinner?
Pass Defense: B-
The Texans took Daunte down 5 times, but did allow Miami's 2 minute offense to get within 2 in the final minutes of the game. We're also convinced that Chris Chambers is on Dunta Robinson's fantasy team, as we're not sure if Chamber's touchdown could have been any easier.
Special Teams: A-
No complaints here. Edell Shepherd had a nice 41 yard return and Wes Welker was held in check.
Coaching: B
For the most part the coaches called a good game and made the right decision to harass Culpepper the entire game. Only big gripe was the Texan's miserable attempt to run out the clock before the half with 1:54 left on the clock.
