Houstonist Weather Watch

Ah, fall. Ah, summer. Ah, fall. Ah, summer. Despite the fact that it's now October and we've had a couple of (admittedly short) runs of cooler weather, this week will feel pretty much like July. But there is relief in sight — in about a week and a half. Sit tight.

Monday through Thursday
Expect a cookie-cutter forecast for much of the week: Afternoon highs of 92, morning lows of 70, lots of sun. The good news is that humidity should be a little lower than we're used to, but not low enough to make the heat bearable.

Weekend
Things won't really change this weekend — we just wanted it to seem like they might. On Friday and Saturday, look for more highs in the low 90s and lows around 70. On Sunday, the temperature will begin to slip a bit, into the high 80s, but don't dig your parkas out just yet.

Next week
Not to get too far ahead, but forecasters tell us a cool front should arrive early next week. That means we should be seeing more fall-like weather around the 11th — highs in the lower to mid 80s, lows around 60, clear skies. We can't wait.

Tropical update
The Texas coast is out of the historical heart of hurricane season even though the season itself will last until the end of November. Hurricane Isaac, the fifth Atlantic storm of the season, formed Saturday near Bermuda; it peaked in power over the weekend and is headed for Canada, where it's expected to bring near-hurricane force winds to Newfoundland tonight. Otherwise, not much is going on: There was an area of strong storms southwest of Cape Verde, but don't look for much from that.

Don't get too excited by all this, though: Hurricanes have hit Texas into October, so we're not in the clear just yet. But just in case anyone with any pull over the weather is listening, we much prefer the cool fall mornings to hurricanes. Just saying.
