If you've seen Waldo in the Montrose area lately, it's not a fluke. This is one guy's personal project. Mr. Waldo is responsible for about a dozen works of street art in Houston as well as Austin. He had this to say about his very first Houston Waldo:
My girlfriend is the one who inspired me to embark on this Waldo project. Not too sure how it will evolve but I'm really excited and already have lots of ideas on where to take this.
After painting and cutting this out I immediately went to the streets to paste it up because I couldn't wait to get it out to the public. I was out in broad daylight meticulously pasting this up without the fear of a cop driving by because It didn't feel like a crime at all. I can't believe some people consider this an illegal act. It blows my mind!
So far, he hasn't suffered any repercussions for his work in Houston, save the trials and tribulations with this piece at Westheimer and Mandell. His works aren't actually graffiti, they're street stickers, but it's still not looked kindly upon by cops and the more straight-laced demographic. Mr. Waldo's willingness to suffer for his art is endearing though, and we here at Houstonist support any effort to make our city a little quirkier.

Week Around The Ists

Normally I enjoy most street art I come across, heck I photograph a lot of it, but this is just unoriginal. If this person had created their own character and pasted that up around town, I'd be more accepting, but this is just a copy of someone else's work.
Hack.
