Houstonist Weather Watch

So we had a surprise last week: The cooler, drier weather we expected to see a couple of days from now came early, which gave us a beautiful Saturday and an equally nice (if a little warm) Sunday. This week may leave a little to be desired — unless you like rain, that is — but hey, we think it's always better to have the good weather on the weekend and save the rain for those days we're chained to a desk. Figuratively, of course.

Monday through Thursday
We're still in for a pretty good day today: cloudy with some sun, a high of 85, moderate humidity, a chance of scattered showers. Not bad for a holiday (even one we're not getting to enjoy). But starting Tuesday, things will change — moisture will move in from the south, giving us a 50 percent chance of rain and a high in the low 80s. The rain has the potential to stick around through Thursday; Wednesday will be a warm, possibly wet one, with a high near 90.

Weekend
If the forecasts are right, this weekend should be our first real taste of fall — temperature-wise, at least. A cool front will move through the area late Thursday, so though it'll still be cloudy and potentially soggy Friday, the high will only reach the mid-60s. Break out the parkas! Saturday and Sunday, things should fair off, allowing the temperature to climb back up near 80. Altogether, not too shabby, except for the rain. We'll just pretend we're Seattlest.

Tropical update
Nothing to report, fortunately — looks like things are winding down in the Atlantic.
