No more Macarena at the Crab?

061010_joes.gifCould the days of overpriced seafood and waitresses dancing on the tables to the “Macarena” be coming to an end? Hopefully, but don’t hold your breath. Houston’s Landry’s Restaurants has just reached a deal to sell the majority of their Joe’s Crab Shack’s to a private equity group.

A Landry’s spokesman explains that the company is going in a different direction and the Joe’s Crab Shack doesn’t fit their future plans. Oh, and business at Joe’s is beginning to suck – we’re sure that was a consideration, too.

For the past few years, Landry’s has been going after the big money – hotels, casino’s (including the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas), and high-end restaurants (including Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse). Since Joe’s Crab Shack catered to screaming children a younger demographic, the sell seems to make sense. However, if they legalize gambling in Texas for those under 18, Landry’s may change their mind.
