Martha Wong, whose ideas are literally so bad that they get laughed down, is generating some more bad press for herself. First, she was getting busted for covering up the word "Republican" on her campaign signs, then she got busted touting programs she voted against (like children's healthcare), now she's in trouble for using HISD superintendent Abe Saavedra's name as an endorsement without his permission in on of her advertisements.
What did he say? "Martha has always been supportive of our needs in HISD and an advocate for us." Wong says this is not big deal because, well, he said it.
Saavedra responded thusly: "it is unfortunate that a misunderstanding may have occurred, but I have not authorized my name to be used in campaign materials. I have not endorsed a candidate."
It's probably best for the impartiality of HISD that Saavedra doesn't endorse anyone. It's also probably a good idea since this will likely be one of the most expensive and hard fought state representative races in the state, with challenger Ellen Cohen pledging to pull out all the stops to win.
