Wednesday
You can call him Black Francis or Frank Black, it doesn’t matter. What does matter, is that the Pixies leader is playing solo shows again, after a very successful reunion tour with his band over the past two years. We’d love to see Kim Deal as a surprise guest, but we won’t hold our breath.

Bound Stems is a “math rock” band. What is that? We had the same question. Instead of using the usual 4/4 beat, they use odd rhythm-schemes that fluctuate. The Stems are touring behind their second release and will be joined by local acts Program, Frank From Accounting and Cool Tapes.
10 p.m. at the Proletariat | tickets and info

Tonight, the best advice we can give you is stay away from Verizon Wireless – here’s why. Georgia’s Now It’s Overhead is a great alternative. They share the same record label as Bright Eyes, but their music is a little darker and layered than Conner Oberst’s. Summerbirds In the Cellar and Western Civilization open.
8 p.m. at Walter’s on Washington | tickets and info

Friday

Even though they’ve been around for five years, Houston’s Bojones are gaining a lot of ground lately. They performed their progressive rock at SXSW this year and will be hitting both Nashville and NYC in the next few weeks. Other notable local acts on the bill include Million Year Dance and Satin Hooks.
8 p.m. at Warehouse Live | tickets and info

Like Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood has one of the most impressive resumes in rock history. On this tour, you’ll hear some of his favorite solo tracks, along with classic from his Blind Faith, Traffic, and Spencer Davis Group.
7:30 p.m. at Verizon Wireless Theater | tickets and info

Saturday
After gaining momentum on the indie scene for a few years, Mute Math is ready to breakout big with the last month’s release of their debut album. Playing at Lollapoolaza, Bonnaroo, and the Van’s Warped Tour this year, it shouldn’t be hard for them to gain new fans.
9 p.m. at Numbers | tickets and info

Old rock festivals are fun, you can get some questions answered. Are any original members left in the band Kansas? Has Ann Wilson from Heart finally lost weight? Is Eddie Money still shakin’ at his age? Get these questions answered at this year’s Arrowfest.
2 p.m. at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | tickets and info
