As we noted earlier, it's raining this morning. In the world of weather forecasting, sometimes that's the best you can do: tell what the weather's doing right this instant. Last week, for example, the forecasts said we'd see very fall-like temperatures at the end of the week, and that didn't pan out quite as expected — but we have another shot at that fall weather this week, so we'll see how that goes (assuming that we don't float away before then).

Today
The line of storms that dumped several inches of rain on the city overnight have, for the most part, moved north and east of the Beltway, where they'll cause problems for the outlying counties before leaving the area this afternoon. But then another storm system is expected to move in and bring us another few inches of rain this afternoon and evening, so don't put up those umbrellas yet. Tuesday through Thursday
If you just can't get enough of the summer, you'll have a good time early this week, with highs near 90 and plenty of sunshine Tuesday and Wednesday. But things will begin to change Wednesday night as a cool front heads our way: Expect a 40 percent chance of storms late Wednesday as temperatures begin to fall, with a high around 77 on Thursday.

Weekend
Friday may be the best day this weekend, with a high in the mid 70s, a low in the mid 50s and lots of sun. On Saturday and Sunday, look for temperatures near 80, clouds and a chance of rain. Sure, it's not great, but it's a lot better than a mid-October blizzard, right?
