Couch gone wild

101806_couch.jpgThis may be one of the strangest stories about a foreign object on a freeway that we've heard lately: In southwest Houston last night, a couch in the middle of the Southwest Freeway caused a car to crash into a furniture store.

It happened on the Southwest Freeway near Hornwood, where the couch apparently fell off a truck and landed on the freeway. Several cars swerved to avoid hitting it, but two cars didn't; both of them hit the couch and went off the freeway onto the feeder road, and one of the cars went on to crash into Accents Fine Furniture, 7075 Southwest Freeway. Unfortunately, there was no report that the couch came from Accents — that would have been a nice touch.

Both drivers who ran into the couch were treated for minor injuries. As for the couch, it flew into another driver's car, but that driver apparently was unhurt. As KHOU reports, "The couch ... is ruined." They just don't make 'em like they used to.
