Discovered by Peter Gabriel, Akron, Ohio’s Joseph Arthur is a singer/songwriter whose music is full of layered, swirling choruses. While his studio albums are very produced, his live show gives fans to hear his music in a new light.

In the late 90’s, Jude came on the scene with a bang – a song on the City of Angels soundtrack, a debut album hailed by critics with some radio airplay for “I Know” and “Rick James.” Label disputes have kept him quiet for the past few years, but he’s back on an independent label and touring – something that he rarely does. Houston's fabulous Miss Leslie & Her Juke Jointers open.

Thursday
Kinky is not only a candidate for governor, its also the name of a band from Monterey, Mexico. Kinky combines Latin rhythms with rock, dance and techno to make their own sound. Houston’ All In Your Head opens.

Friday
Experimental pop/rock is probably the best way to describe Broken Social Scene. The Canadian 8-10 piece band (depending on the day) exploded on the indie and college radio scene with their 2002 album You Forgot It In People, and last year’s self-titled CD.

If commercial pop/rock radio were good, then Pete Yorn’s songs would be all over it. His songs “Crystal Village,” “Life on a Chain,” among others, combine almost-perfect melodies with guitars and his distinctive vocals. He’s touring on his brand new CD Nightcrawler.

Saturday
A few music venues are celebrating Halloween a little early this year, to take advantage of the weekend. Super Happy Fun Land is holding their Super Happy Halloween Festival, featuring local bands like the ska-flavored Dumbarton, Curbside Tree Project, and many more. Of course, their will be a costume contest, too.

If you want a themed costume contest, Warehouse Live is hosting the Pimps-n-Hoes/Vamps-n-Vixens Ball, featuring old-school rapper/DJ Grandmaster Flash. The studio side of the club will also give you a good place to shake your moves with DJ outfit Plastic Angel.
