A city dump truck driver crashed into a car, injured two people and killed another yesterday morning — apparently because he lost control of his truck, the Chronicle reports. The driver was trying to turn from Atascocita Road onto Will Clayton Parkway at around 11 a.m., but the truck kept going on Atascocita, hitting a Jeep Cherokee and the two workers who were building a handicap ramp at the intersection.
According to KHOU, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said the truck driver seemed to have been speeding when the accident happened, but a spokesman said there was no immediate sign of alcohol or drugs in his system. The dead man was identified as 27-year-old Adam Knetsar of Katy; the other worker, who wasn't identified, was transported to Northeast Medical Center, and the driver of the car that was hit was LifeFlighted to Memorial Hermann. Both are in critical condition, KTRK reports.
Investigators were on the scene yesterday trying to find a cause for the accident. Officials told Channel 11 that the truck driver could face a vehicular homicide charge.
