Would-be criminals get minivan stuck on front of pawn shop

102706_minivan.jpgWe're sure we've brought it up before, but nothing gives Houstonist an end-of-the-week pick-me-up like a news story about stupid criminals. It's been a long week, so we were doubly happy to note KPRC's report about an attempted smash-and-grab robbery that went embarrassingly wrong early this morning:

Two men smashed a minivan into a store in an attempt to break into it, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Officials said the men tried to break into the People's Pawn shop on Aldine Bender Road near Imperial Valley Drive at about 4:30 a.m. Friday.

The minivan got stuck on metal posts outside the store, causing it to stick up in the air and strike the store's front door and windows.

Burglar bars on the store were not penetrated, officials said.

The would-be burglars apparently fled the scene when they realized that burglar bars trumped the minivan (which, incidentally, was reported stolen). That might've been the first smart move they made all night.
