Live Music Calendar

Tuesday
We’ve given you a lot of Halloween ideas, including costumes to wear, places to go, and haunted places. Want one more? How about Halloween from Hell III? Since My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult is headlining, you know Lucifer will be there.
8 p.m. at The Engine Room | tickets and info

Wednesday
Yesterday, we recommended the Ben Folds and Houston Symphony concert for tonight, and we still do.

There’s good local music tonight, also. The Ragged Hearts include such diverse acts as The Replacements, Townes Van Zandt, and David Bowie as their influences – and you’ll hear it in their songs. The pop/rock band has Prodigal Son opening for them.
10 p.m. at Continental Club | tickets and info

Thursday
Anyone who names their CD Best Of The Wirtz: 15 Years On The Road With A 77-Inch Pianist must have a warped sense of humor. That would describe Rev. Billy C. Wirtz perfectly. Think of Jerry Lee Lewis being as wild as he wanted to be back in the fifties.
8 p.m. at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck | tickets and info

Houstonist loves songs with good hooks, and local band Permanent Daylight has plenty of them. Their music is influenced by British pop from the 60’s all the way to present day. Speaking of which, U.K.’s Bash joins the bill, as does The Phlegmatics from Katy.
8 p.m. at Rudyard’s | tickets and info

Friday
Les Claypool probably has the most recognizable bass lines – even if you’ve never heard such Primus classics like “Jerry was a Racecar Driver” or “My Name is Mud,” you surely know the theme from South Park, which he wrote, plays, and sings. They’re finally back in Houston with Drums & Tuba.
8 p.m. at Verizon Wireless | tickets and info

Saturday
Another great musical line-up this Fall at the Westheimer Block Festival. Many of Houston’s great local bands will be performing, including the alt-rock Penny Royal, pop/rock Scattered Pages, rap outfit Studemont Project. If those three don’t suit you, surely one of the other 40 bands will. See complete list here.
Noon at Westheimer and Taft | tickets and info

The Go-Go’s, Bangles and Dixie Chicks are rather lame, compared to the girl-rock Houston has to offer. The Last Concert Café is sponsoring the 7th Annual GoGirlsMusicFest. Featured bands include the rocking Osirus, folk/rock Tamara Booth, and cover band Hidden Agenda. Complete line-up here.
9 p.m. at Last Concert Café | tickets and info
