Fun For A Hamilton: November 3-9

060906_tenner.jpgHello Houstonians! Here's what's on tap....

Friday, November 3
For all your possibly-pretentious dance needs, the Hope Stone dance troupe will respond to the work of Paul Klee through dance over at the Menil Collection (one of Houston's hidden treasures--you must go if you haven't been. We're serious, we're requiring it.) The performance will be in Richmond Hall @ The Menil (1500 Richmond) at 7:30 pm. It's free, and a talk follows the performance.

Saturday, November 4
The Live Oak Friends Meeting Group will host a Peace Festival, with workshops in the morning and afternoon, storytelling and cooperative games for kids, and free food. Workshops centered on Quaker philosophy will be held at 10 am and 2 pm, and the festival will end with a meditation outdoors, weather permitting. 9 am to sundown. Live Oak Friends Meeting House (1318 W. 26th St.). Free.

Sunday, November 5
A Young Audiences concert at Miller Outdoor Theater (100 Concert Drive in Hermann Park) , Texas Alive With Music explores Texas history at 3 pm today. Get the kids outside in the pretty weather to hear Paragon Brass perform old favorites as well as more obscure Texan music. Tickets are avaliable the day of the show at the box office, between 11:30 and 1:00, and remainign tickets for the covered seating are given out an hour before curtain. You don't need a ticket to sit on the hill--bring a picnic! Free.

Monday, November 6
Poets Denise Duhamel (who has appeared in the Best American Poetry collection in three different years) and 2001 Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Dunn continue the Imprint-Brown Reading Series tonight at Stude Concert Hall @ Rice University. Tickets are $5, and avaliable only at the door. 7:30 pm.

Tuesday, November 7
InterActive Theater Company presents The Sleeping Princess of Tenochtitlan, a Mexican folktale. Tickets are Buy one get one free tonight, and are $7 each. The performance is at the TBH Center (333 S. Jensen) at 7 pm.

Wednesday, November 8
This one actually made us go "Oh, cool!" when we read about it, so while we're languishing in class and at work, you'll have to go, and tell us how it is. The Heritage Society (1100 Bagby) presents A Story to Tell: Dolls from Literature, with dolls of Gandalf, Humpty Dumpty, and others. The point, we think, is to inspire small children to read, but hey, dolls are fun! (Open Tuesday-Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 1-4 through January 7th. Free.

Thursday, November 9

Bad Boyfriend plays at The Velvet Melvin (our neighborhood bar, if by neighborhood, you mean "stumble-able from our apartment at 3 AM) tonight. No cover (and they have pizza!). (3303 Richmond)
