Friday Afternoon Videos: Land of Confusion

Now that the elections are over, we thought we’d step back 20 years and watch a politically motivated, yet fun, video. Genesis’ “Land of Confusion” was created while Reagan was still in office and the cold war was still alive. The video featured puppets from the British television show Spitting Image, whose likenesses included Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Mikhail Gorbachev. The show creators also developed puppets in the likeness of each band member. With the video’s gloomy nuclear war threat theme, the puppets became more creepy than fun.

The track is getting a new life on alternative rock radio through a cover version by Disturbed.

Genesis fans received some good news this week – Phil Collins and band are reuniting for a tour. The return of Genesis will not include founding member Peter Gabriel, who left the band before they achieved massive commercial success. The tour begins in Europe next summer.
