Houstonist Flickr Photo of the Day - Poem on Pavement

Poem on Pavement

The shot from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor Charles Chopper Chavez.

Last week, we featured photos of sidewalks asking if they were helping humanity and menacing a person in sneakers. Today, we find another active Houston sidewalk — one that's sharing a poem by Evangelina Vigil-Piñón, a San Antonio-born writer, songwriter, teacher and television producer who lives in Houston and teaches at UH. Vigil-Piñón's poem is one of several similar panels set into downtown sidewalks; be sure to keep an eye out for them next time you're on foot there. (And if you decide to share something with the sidewalk, feel free — downtown, no one will give you a second look if you're whispering to the pavement.)
