Insomniac Foodies Read This

24%20hours.jpgHoustonist had a pretty nice weekend, enjoying the weather (did you catch the amazing heat lightning on Saturday?), ice skating at the Gallaria, eating cake at Empire Cafe, and having other assorted fun, but one particular piece of exciting news warmed our sleep-deprived soul.

The 59 Diner (3801 Farnharm, at Greenbriar/Shepherd and 59) is going to be open 24 hours a day starting today. Long-term readers will know us as big proponents of latenight food, and don't get us wrong: we're not withdrawing our love of House of Pies or anything, here, but 59 Diner's burgers, warm cornbread, blueplate specials, and desserts make it worth the excitment. Try peach cobbler or the lime freeze--a milkshake made with Blue Bell lime sherbet--for a sugar infusion. The food can be hit-or-miss at other locations, but we've never had anything but yumminess at the Farnham location.

So next time you need all night breakfast that comes with a milkshake just because, head here for some retro comfort food. We'll see you there.
