It's too late to vote in last week's election. But if you're still jonesing to vote, you can cast your ballot in the "Dancing with ABC13" contest. If you missed it, last week five Channel 13 anchors (Marvin Zindler included) took to the dance floor in their own version of "Dancing with the Stars." The newscasters spent three and a half weeks training with dancing professionals for the competition. The videos are posted on the ABC 13 website, along with judges' commentary. The viewer-selected winner will be announced on tomorrow's 6 AM newscast. Houstonist is going to let you know what we think about how the Channel 13 newscasters (average age: 82) performed.
Gina Gaston really wowed us with her salsa. We agree with the judges that this was a perfect ten. Who knew Gina could move like that, and with that hairpiece too? We think she's a top contender for fan favorite, and Marvin called it too.
Is Don Nelson taking himself too seriously or is he being facetious? We can't even tell. Honestly, look at his facial expression. The tango is a serious dance, but this is a little unnerving. With that aside, we think he didn't do too badly, and good for him. Judge Donny Burns was definitely too harsh in comparing the dance to an autopsy.
Ilona Carson insists that she's never danced before, and we believe it. Is it really in good form for a woman to be a foot taller than her dancing partner? Judge Lester Smith called for "more rumba action," and we couldn't agree more. Ilona, you just can't get by on long legs and a sultry look anymore. We love you, but we suggest you stick to reporting.
Bob Slovak also looks a little ridiculous, but it's endearing. Did Kayne from Project Runway design his outfit? Despite looking over-bedazzled, Bob did a great job with the cha-cha and put a lot of personality into his dancing. What a cutie.
Who doesn't love Marvin Zindler? He danced the waltz with amazing finesse, just as you'd expect. This was a nice time warp, especially after Ilona's way-sexy rumba. We wouldn't be surprised to see him win, mostly based on his popularity outside of the contest. The real question here: is Marvin Zindler going to live forever?
