High rise residential can't compete in Houston if your view is blocked by another building across the street - thus the cancellations downtown. It also doesn't help that very affordable and very nice new townhomes are available just minutes away from downtown.

I don't understand the constant lamenting of no downtown grocery store. 1) There is the Randall's on the north end of Midtown, which is essentially adjacent to downtown. 2) Everybody still owns a car in Houston, inc. downtown. 3) The one trip you really want to drive rather than walk is *groceries* - so you can like, buy more than 1 or 2 bags. All sorts of trips are amenable to walking, but groceries isn't one of them.

And yet the new Pavilion development just dumped their plans to include residential in their new downtown development.

Something doesn't jibe with one of these stories!
