Robbery suspect nearly runs down cop

111506_friendly.jpgWould-be criminals, here's something else to add to your list of don'ts: When you're fleeing the scene of a crime, don't come close to running down a police officer. That's a lesson one burglary suspect learned the hard way early this morning after an attempted robbery at a northwest Houston car stereo store.

According to police, three men broke into Car Stereo Plus near the West Loop and West 18th Street at about 4:45 a.m. Cops responded to the store's burglar alarm; when they arrived, the burglars got spooked and ran. Two of the suspects jumped over a fence and got away on foot, but the third fled by car. "One male ran out of the business, jumped into the car, almost ran over an officer and fled," HPD Sgt. Arturo Bazan said. "A vehicle pursuit ensued and after a brief chase he ended up pulling over and was taken into custody." Oops.

Anyone with information on this morning's burglary should call Crime Stoppers at 713.222.TIPS. And if you're breaking the law, remember: Safety first.
