Man dies after falling from side of 18-wheeler

111606_seatbelt.jpgAnd now for something thoroughly odd: Last night, a man was killed on Highway 290 when he fell from the side of a moving 18-wheeler.

It happened at about 9:30 p.m. near 290 and Barker Cypress, where drivers saw the 30-year-old man dangling from an 18-wheeler's trailer as the truck sped along the freeway. The man fell off the truck and landed on the roadway, where he was hit and killed by a blue Dodge truck. The driver of the Dodge stopped for a second, witnesses said, then drove away.

According to the Chronicle, police are still searching for the 18-wheeler (and, we assume, the driver of the Dodge truck) and are trying to figure out what everyone would like to know: why the guy was hanging off the side of the truck in the first place. The freeway was shut down for a few hours while officials investigated.
