Man killed on Highway 290 had jumped from overpass

111706_jump.jpgMore on the guy who was killed on Highway 290 after falling from the side of a moving 18-wheeler Wednesday night: Turns out he was on the truck because he landed there after jumping from an overpass.

Witnesses told deputies that they saw a man jump from the 12000 block of Barker Cypress around 9:30 p.m.

The man landed on top of an 18-wheeler traveling west on the 2400 block of Northwest Freeway that was transporting eight vehicles in its trailer. Officials said, he then fell off the tractor trailer and was hit by a pickup truck that was also traveling west.

Officials said it's not clear whether the man was trying to jump in front of the 18-wheeler — if so, looks like his timing was a bit off. Earlier reports said police were looking for the big rig and for the driver of the pickup truck who hit and killed the man; that driver reportedly paused after the impact, then sped away.
