I was wondering if you could do a round up of restaurants that will be open on Thanksgiving for we few freaks who will not be spending time with friends and/or family. You would know this better than a recent transplant like my(sorry)self.
Hey, just because you're not able to spend time with friends and family on Thanksgiving doesn't make you a freak — it's what you do while you're away from your loved ones that qualifies you for that title. Regardless, a number of places will be open on Thanksgiving Day. Here's a good list from b4-u-eat, and here are our picks (for most of these, we do recommend calling ahead to make sure reservations aren't needed — you never know how many people will be eating out):
- Luby's: Yeah, say what you will about Luby's, but it's always one of Houstonist's favorite stops for comfort food — and what is Thanksgiving dinner about if not comfort food? | locations throughout Houston
- Red Lion Pub: Chow down Brit-style at the Red Lion, which will feature its regular menu of pub fare plus a traditional turkey dinner ($16) and pumpkin pie. | 2316 S. Shepherd Drive
- Rudi Lechner's: The German restaurant will lay out a buffet ($19) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring turkey, ham, roast beef, veal, goulash and a variety of vegetables, sides and salads. | 2503 S. Gessner Road
- Gravitas: Near downtown, the trendy Gravitas will offer a family-style dinner ($45) from 3 to 7 p.m. with roasted turkey, pork loin, sides, appetizers and pie. | 807 Taft St.
- Post Oak Grill: The Uptown restaurant will serve Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The benefit here is that, after you eat, you can hang out and catch the Uptown lighting ceremony. | 1415 S. Post Oak Lane
- Trevísio: If you're in the mood for something a little fancier, check out Trevísio's four-course Thanksgiving lunch ($55), served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Among the choices: foie gras, glazed quail, gnocchi with lobster cream, apricot glazed pork chops — and, of course, turkey breast. | 6550 Bertner Ave.
- The St. Regis: Even more uptown — literally — is Thanksgiving brunch at the St. Regis ($65), served buffet-style in the ballroom. A prix-fixe dinner ($50) will also be served in The Remington. | 1919 Briar Oaks Lane
- Rickshaw: And if turkey and dressing in any form isn't your cup of tea, Rickshaw will be serving its usual Pacific Rim cuisine at dinnertime Thursday. Thanksgiving sushi? Chances are you wouldn't find it on Grandma's table. | 2810 Westheimer Road
If you'd rather eat at home, we recommend hitting the prepared-food sections of Whole Foods Market or Central Market, both of which will be open until 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. That way, you'll at least be close to the couch when the turkey-induced sleep sets in.
