Everyone's favorite local investigator of things people often don't care about, Amy Davis, is at it again. According to a KPRC investigation, Rice students might be getting a pass on drunk driving from campus police.
Here's our favorite part of the story (besides the video of the half-naked coeds trying to dance): "There's a beer keg in the bathroom and punch in the refrigerator. This is Rice University's annual night of decadence where scantily clad students drink, dance and drink some more while Rice University police keep watch."
There are some parts of the story we'd like to highlight. First, it makes this place seem like a den of iniquity... but this is Rice University, where they have an annual night of decadence, where any good college has a bi-weekly celebration of drunken antics. Has anyone ever been to a good pary at Rice? Let them have a drink, it's all they have.
Second, anyone with any moral compass knows that drunk driving is wrong, but it could also be argued that the University is doing the right thing by sending drunk students to a campus court instead of sending them to County lock-up. Then you read this:
"When Rice police made a traffic stop in March and issued a city citation for a minor driving under the influence. Instead of arresting the student, police sent them back to the dorm.
Less than an hour later, officers write, "student from previous incident was found driving a different vehicle."
You have to ask yourself who is the stupid one here? The Rice PD or the student?
