Westbury Student Fatally Shot

11282006_pistol.jpgA 16 year old Westbury High School student was gunned down in a reportedly gang-related drive by shooting this morning, between 8:35 and 8:40 a.m. in the 5400 block of Dryad, adjacent to the Westbury campus, reports the Chronicle.

The student was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where "he died on arrival,'' said Evelyn Flouri, of the homicide division of the Houston Police Department. Police were not releasing the victim's name.

Police told HISD superintendent Abelardo Saavedra that the shooting appears to be gang-related.

HPD officer say they were preparing to interview several witnesses to the crime, also believed to be students. Authorities are searching for a brown car that fled the scene, with two males inside.

"It's a good school," Terry Abbott is quoted as saying. Well, as Houstonist well knows, bad things happen in good places and to good people. This is another incident of violence at a southwest area high school struggling to improve it's image after several other problems over the past twelve months, including, but not limited to, a brawl in which over 25 studentswere arrested and an alleged rape/sexual assault.
