Tis the season - to make off with a manger and Baby Jesus? According to the Galveston Daily News, thieves tried to abscond with the homemade manger and baby Jesus from a home in Santa Fe, Texas. The manger was later found in a neighbor's yard, however, baby Jesus is still "at large". The homeowner's have posted a sign in their yard near the nativity to berate the culprit(s). This is the first incident in the ten years the Evan's family has been installing the nativity scene.
Still, the doll that portrayed Jesus was nowhere to be found.“I guess I have to dig through the kids’ closest and find a new doll,” Evans said.
Santa Fe police, meanwhile, said they do not have any suspects. Evans told police she went to bed just before midnight Saturday and discovered the theft when she awoke Sunday morning.
Thefts or vandalism to holiday yard decorations are a common occurrence in Galveston County this time of year.
Based on a review of Daily News police coverage in 2005, such incidents occurred at least once a week during the Christmas holiday season.
