Cops find car used in Westbury drive-by

113006_policeline.jpgPolice say they found the car used in the drive-by shooting of a Westbury High School student at a Fort Bend County apartment complex last night, and now they'll begin testing it for clues as to the identity of the people responsible for killing 16-year-old Julian Ruiz.

Ruiz was shot just after classes started Tuesday morning as he stood alongside Dryad Street on the edge of the Westbury campus. Witnesses said the car — a brown Mercury Cougar — passed Ruiz and a group of friends he was standing with a couple of times, then stopped. The people in the car had words with the kids, then opened fire, hitting Ruiz twice in the torso. He was pronounced dead at Ben Taub. Police confirmed the details about the car using surveillance tape; they were able to spot it in Stafford by its tinted windows and chrome wheels.

Houston police said the registered owner of the car isn't a suspect in the shooting.
