Westbury shooting suspects still at large

120406_suspects.jpgMore on last week's drive-by shooting of a Westbury High School student: Now we know who the two suspects in the crime are, but no one's sure where they are — not even one of the suspects' fathers.

The guys wanted in the shooting are Augustin Miguel Marquez (left) and Aldo Aguilar Ramirez, both 17. Police say they were the ones who drove past Julian Ruiz and a group of his friends standing outside the Westbury grounds Tuesday morning, exchanged words with the group and then shot Ruiz to death. The car they were driving, a Mercury Cougar with tinted windows and chrome wheels, was found in Stafford on Wednesday night, but so far there's been no sign of Ramirez and Marquez. "We are still continuing to follow up on several leads and ask anyone who may know where one or both of them are to contact police or Crime Stoppers. We want to reiterate that if someone is afraid of retribution, that they can remain anonymous," HPD spokesman John Cannon told the Chronicle over the weekend.

Police say both suspects are dangerous gang members and that it was Marquez who actually shot Ruiz, while Ramirez was driving the car (which was his). Ramirez's dad, Dobanin Trujillo, told KHOU yesterday that Ramirez was a good kid caught in a bad situation — but he's not sure whether Ramirez was really involved in the shooting because he's disappeared. "I wish he would return ... I wish I knew where he was," he told Channel 11.

Anyone with information on Marquez or Ramirez should call the HPD homicide division at 713.308.3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713.222.TIPS.
