Birthday bust

120506_pot.jpgSometimes, birthdays just don't turn out like you expect them to. If you don't believe us, just ask Nathaniel Jackson, a Texas City man who turned 23 Saturday — and got busted by New Jersey police for having 17 pounds of pot in his hotel room.

Fort Lee, N.J., police say they found Jackson and his girlfriend Kimberly Burns, 26, putting the marijuana into bags in their hotel room. It seems the pair let the cops into the room willingly — they thought the knock at the door was from a guy who was supposed to take them to Brooklyn, but it turns out it was an officer doing a fairly routine check. "The officer was doing routine patrols in the parking lot when hotel management asked him to check out a room because the people in there should have checked out and vacated the place, and they didn't," Detective Sgt. Lenny Cottrell told The Record of Bergen County.

Jackson and Burns face several drug-related charges; police also found a gun in Burns's car and charged Jackson, who is on parole, with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Happy birthday!
