All this week we're featuring our favorite photos from a year of great contributions to the Houstonist Flickr Photo Group. They're all our favorites in different ways, but there were four that stood out as jewels amongst the gems.
This shot is from Laanba, or Photine or just Laurie. Whatever you call her, just make sure to check out her great photos.
This was another easy pick for us, considering that, after showing up as photo of the day, it showed up again. What can we say? We love the derby and we're a little afraid the subject of this photo would beat us up if we didn't use the photo.

For those of y'all who want to know which cool Derby chick this is, it's CHEWCIFER of the Machete Betties. Chew not only skates, but she has sung the National Anthem at several bouts during the 2006 season. She and other Derby ladies are featured in the Houston Roller Derby 2007 photo calendar, available at Sig's Lagoon and online for your wall decorating and time management needs. That really is a rockin' photo- the Colonel
