A Night at the Museum... at the museum

010907_nightatmuseum.jpgSo you still haven't checked out A Night at the Museum...at the museum? Only 3 weeks left to see it on the big, uh BIG, screen. In the ultimate case of art imitating life, the Houston Museum of Natural Science brings A Night At The Museum to the Wortham IMAX Theater. Finally, a chance to see Ben Stiller's head true size.

Adapted for the screen by Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon (of MTV's The State fame, and the more recent Comedy Central hit, Reno 911), the comedy is based on Based on The Night at the Museum, a 1993 children's book by Milan Trenc. The plot focuses on Larry Daley (Stiller), a divorced parent who accepts a graveyard shift position as a security guard at a struggling natural history museum. Failing to follow the instructions in the manual provided by the three guards he replaced, he awakens during his shift to discover several exhibits have come alive and chaos has erupted. Comedy ensues as Theodore Roosevelt, to whom the museum is dedicated, tries to help Larry restore order. A cast of plenty includes: Robin Williams, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Ricky Gervais, Carla Gugino, and Owen Wilson.

Fun Fact: The building featured in the film, which was constructed on a sound stage in Vancouver, Canada, is based on the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, the most attended museum in the country. Can you guess who number 2 is? Yep, our own HMNS.

The best part about seeing the movie at HMNS is that (OK, besides being able to inspect Owen Wilson's jacked nose at 50 feet tall) with admission comes free entrance to the museum's main exhibit halls. Kill two teradactyls with one stone.
