Well, it looks like we still have a few months before we get to hear why spending millions of dollars in public funds on personal expenses was OK: The trial of ex-Texas Southern University President Priscilla Slade, who seems like she'll prove herself the queen of justifying outrageous actions, has been set for Aug. 10.
Slade, remember, got in trouble back in February after she blabbed to one of the school's regents that she spent university money on landscaping and furnishing her Memorial Park-area home. She was fired in June and was indicted in August after an investigation turned up $2 million in unauthorized expenditures during Slade's six-plus years in office — public money spent on everything from spa treatments to Christmas presents to church donations. Slade has claimed all along that she didn't do anything wrong: In April, she declared her innocence in a carefully orchestrated radio broadcast, and not long after that, she sued TSU for unfair treatment.
Slade isn't the only ex-TSU official who will be in court for misusing funds in the coming months: former Senior Safety Systems Engineer Frederick Holts will go on trial Feb. 16, former CFO Quintin Wiggins will go on trial April 5 and former Senior Vice President of Administration Bruce Wilson will go on trial Sept 28.
