David Cobb knows how to throw a good concert together focusing on local music, and he’s doing it again tonight soon. Houston Calling is hosting their third music-filled Happy Hour tonight at the Proletariat.

Tonight’s Eventually, the show will feature Arthur Yoria as the headliner. Yoria was born in Chicago but has called Houston home for quite a while now. He’s received several Houston Press Music Award nominations and gained nationwide exposure when one of his songs was included on O.C. (which is one of the best ways for new artists to receive exposure these days). He’s basically a pop/rock artist and songwriter, but his signature style includes his use of a digital “looping” machine, which allows him to lay down background tracks while performing, playing them throughout his songs (something that KT Tunstall used this past year with her huge hit “Black Horse and Cherry Tree”).

Two other local bands, Mansion and Blades, are also on the bill tonight, when the show is rescheduled. Mansion has been on the local music scene for almost ten years, playing layered, atmospheric rock. The Blades hail from Pasadena (close enough), and, in their words, “write songs about smoke stacks, traffic, and shitty food without uttering so much as a word.”

Three good local artists, cheap cover, and cheap drinks: sounds like a perfect combo.
