Houstonist was just advised, via the Chronicle, that there are some road closures beginning at 5:00 p.m. today and continuing until the threat of icing has passed. Mainly, this might concern you if you live "outside the loop", or need to head that way in the next day or so. So, notify your friends or family if needed. Make a mental note to adjust your drive, if you haven't left work already. Houstonist asks you to please drive/be safe, regardless of the road conditions. Here's the skinny:
Authority planned to begin sanding the interchanges of Sam Houston Tollway and U.S. 290, and Sam Houston Tollway and Interstate 10 at 2 p.m.Additionally, by 5 p.m. today, the following locations were to be closed to traffic until the threat of ice forming has passed:
The Eastbound Westpark flyover to U.S. 59 (Southwest Freeway) Northbound
The Harris County Fort Bend extension from the Sam Houston Tollway to U.S. 90A
The direct connector from Southbound Grand Parkway to Eastbound Fort Bend Westpark Toll Road
The National Weather Service forecasted a 50 percent chance of freezing rain this evening and a 70 percent chance after midnight and through the night.
