Morning Roundup: Politics rocks! edition

011907_perry.jpgGood morning, Houston. It's hard to be a politician these days, isn't it? Things go well, things go badly — you just never know. Fortunately, we'll always have one political constant in Texas: Rick Perry's hair. Well, that and the Capitol — but sometimes, y'know, it's hard to tell one dome from another.

>> Just what the governor ordered: Gov. Rick Perry is drawing some fire for an inaugural performance by rocker Ted Nugent on Tuesday: Nugent, a buddy of the gov's, took the stage in a Confederate flag T-shirt, used machine guns as props and made offensive remarks about non-English speakers. All in a day's work, right? Perry's spokesman said most people "had a really good time;" the Nuge wasn't available for comment because he was out hunting. [Chronicle]

>> At SMU, no love for W?: The list of folks opposing construction of George W. Bush's presidential library at Southern Methodist University is growing all the time — first it was some SMU professors, and now it's Methodist ministers from across the U.S., who say having the Bush Library at the school would be "utterly inappropriate." But SMU President Gerald Turner backs the library, calling it a "significant opportunity" for the university. [NPR/KPRC/Chronicle]

>> Today's weather: We're starting to get used to the cold, damp weather — which means we're feeling a little like our friends at Seattlest. We're starting the day out around 40, and the temperature will top out at around 46 this afternoon. Expect a fair chance of rain all morning and afternoon, increasing to a 50 percent chance tonight. Coming up this weekend we'll see more rain and temperatures climbing up to the mid-50s by Sunday afternoon — and next week, more highs in the 40s.
