Ten more red-light cameras have gone online around the city, many of them — like in the last group to begin operating — along the Southwest Freeway. The locations of the new cameras are:
- West Loop at San Felipe (east frontage road)
- Southwest Freeway at Bellaire (west frontage road)
- Bissonnet westbound at Southwest Freeway east frontage road
- Southwest Freeway at Beechnut (east frontage road)
- Southwest Freeway at Fondren (east frontage road)
- Chartres northbound at St. Joseph's Parkway
- El Dorado northbound at Gulf Freeway
- Hollister northbound at 290 west frontage road
- West Road eastbound at North Freeway west frontage road
- North Wayside southbound at East Freeway north frontage road
The first red-light cameras in town went online Sept. 1, with more added last fall. In the nearly five months the system has been operating, KHOU reports that about 22,500 violations have been issued. By Houstonist's (admittedly bad) math, that means the cameras have been picking up about 150 people running red lights every day — kinda makes us want to stay home, where we're safe. Or not.
