About Workshop Houston
Workshop Houston is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to build the foundations for empowered communities through creative and enriching activities for youth. Workshop Houston has four shops that provide artistic, technical and academic resources to the community: the Chopper Shop (welding and metal fabrication), the Beat Shop (hip-hop music production), the Style Shop (fashion design) and the Third Ward Bike Shop (do-it-yourself bike repair). These programs use hands-on projects and dynamic collaborative processes to create an environment in which youth explore new knowledge and power on their own terms. Started in 2003, the Bike Shop runs innovative youth programs and promotes recycled bicycles as an affordable means of transportation in the Third Ward. Both the youth and adult programs focus on hands-on self-directed education as a path to self-empowerment.
