God Sleeps In Rwanda: Movie Screening & Lecture
Tonight at the Holocaust Musuem (yes, Houston has one of the best in the country), The Houston World Affairs Council will present a free screening of "God Sleeps in Rwanda," a documentary film by Kimberlee Acquaro and Stacy Sherman and narrated by Rosario Dawson. The film was an Academy Award nominee for best documentary short film in 2005.
Acquaro will be on hand to answer questions after the film screening, set for 7 p.m tonight, in the Herzstein Theater at the Museum’s Morgan Family Center.
A poignant story of loss and redemption, "God Sleeps in Rwanda" captures the spirit of five courageous women as they rebuild their lives, redefining women’s roles in Rwandan society and bringing hope to a wounded nation.
While many people now know about the 1994 genocide in that country, most do not fully understand its magnitude. In a mere 100 days, while the world stood by, more than 800,000 people were killed, and the slaughter resulted in millions of refugees and orphaned children.
