Houstonist iMix

Houstonist contributors are an opinionated bunch when it comes to music. When we get together, we’re always talking about recent concerts we’ve seen, new bands we’ve heard on satellite or Internet radio, etc. We don’t always agree on what’s good, but it keeps things interesting.

So, we decided to put together a collection of songs that we are listening to now and create our first iMix. To create an iMix, the song has to be available on iTunes, which unfortunately eliminates some of those songs on our list (especially local or regional ones) but with the state of local radio these days, we thought it would still be a good idea to publish this collection. If you have iTunes on your computer, you can listen to and download (if you wish) our full iMix or individual tracks here.

Most of the tracks were released in the past couple of years. There are a few mainstream acts (Green Day & U2 – live from the Superdome in New Orleans), indie favorites (The Shins, even though their popularity has now gone beyond indie), and a few classics (Siouxsie & the Banshees, Texas singer/songwriter Joe Ely). There’s a lot of alternative and rock, but some reggae, country, folk, and even pop were thrown in, too.

We decided not to list which contributor suggested which song. Mainly because we wanted to protect the guilty innocent (Kelly Clarkson?).

Enjoy!
