I have a huge problem. I’m a big Bears fan (and a huge White Sox fan, but I’ll let that slide for the time being as to not open old wounds), but as this weekend approaches, I realized that I have nobody to watch The Game with. For years, I would be watching The Game with a few dozen other sweatpants-wearing, brat-eating, true Chicagoans — and for the first time in my first month as a southerner, I truly miss home.
Do you know of any good Bears bars, Chicago bars or places where folks would be likely to don the orange and blue to cheer on DA BEARS? -- Tom
First off, welcome to Houston! We’re sure you miss the -20 wind chill and 30 mph winds, too. We make fun of our friends in Chicago this time of the year (of course, they return the favor in the summer). Nevertheless, we want to help you with your Bears fix.
If you live in the suburbs, it looks like you’re in luck. There seems to be a gathering of Bears fans in the Woodlands, Clear Lake and Cypress areas: specifically, Time Out #2 in Clear Lake, and Sports & More on the northwest side of town.
If none of those are near you, there are plenty of places to watch the game, but you’ll probably have to put up with some Colts fans, too:
- Buffalo Wild Wings: Great place to watch a game and chow down on wome sings. You can find one in Midtown, Rice Village, Spring, Pasadena, Tomball, Pearland, etc.
- Champps Americana: A nice combo restaurant/sports bar atmosphere in Uptown Park. Champps will have a buffet and will give customers chances to win prizes throughout the game.
- Fox Sports Grill: Anyplace named after a cable sports channel has to be a good place to watch a game. Just be sure to bring your appetite to this Galleria sports bar — if you don’t spend $10 an hour, you lose your table.
- Little Woodrows: If you prefer an ice house atmosphere, Little Woodrows has locations in Midtown, Rice Village, Kirby/West Alabama area and near Bellaire.
- Poison Girl: Smaller than the above mentioned, but hipper. Located on lower Westheimer, this bar is giving all of their profits this Sunday to the non-profit Infernal Bridegroom Productions.
And: Matt Bramanti writes that Bears fans should also try Cahill's on Durham, about a block south of Washington Avenue.
