Houstonist Bartender

Miami_XLI_sm.jpgThis weekend will be both glorious and depressing for Houstonist and any other true football fans. February 4th will provide the most anticipated game of the pro football season, Super Bowl XLI.(The crowd goes wild!) Unfortunately 2/4 will also be the last day of football until early September.(BOOOOO!) For the record, unless you attend in person, the Pro Bowl doesn’t count. So to celebrate/mourn this auspicious/ominous occasion, we have found not one, not two, but three libations for this year’s Super Bowl Sunday. Please, please, no applause. Just send money.

First, the drink for everyone. “Touchdown Tea”. Truly a drink for all occasions. You can make/drink this one by the glass or the punch bowl. Since you and twenty of your closest friends will be parked in front of that drive-in theater hanging on your living room wall, save time by making this one in a punch bowl. Pre-mixing keys: lots of ice in the bowl and “parts” are equal amounts, i.e. 8 oz vodka, rum and gin, but only 4 oz te-killya.

Touchdown Tea

Equal parts vodka, rum, gin and triple sec

½ part tequila

1 ½ parts lemon-lime Gatorade (you can use Powerade if you like the fizz)

Few splashes of coke for color

Stir well and before each serving

Now to spice up the game. Since it’s not just about who’s winning, but more about what “squares” you’ve drawn and who your money is on, our bonus recipes are for those big play moments. (We’ll let you determine what defines a “big play” moment.) We’ve found a couple of easy to concoct shooters for you to punish your buddies with when your team makes the highlight reel.

For the Colts’ Fans
The Stinger (per shot)

1 oz vodka
.5 oz white crème de menthe

For the Bears’ Fans (per shot)

Red Headed Slut

.5 oz Jagermeister
.5 oz peach schnapps
.5 oz cranberry juice

Break out the chips and dip, get your dibs on the end of the sofa with the recliner and enjoy the pinnacle of this football season. The world won't be right again for another six months.

Remember to drink smart.
