MFA's Hitchock's Blondes Film Series: To Catch a Theif
This film series complements the Alley Theatre´s production of Hitchcock Blonde (February 23—March 18), a cinematic mystery that combines theater and film. This week's movie features Hitckock's To Catch a Theif. All screenings are introduced by Alley Theatre artistic director Gregory Boyd, who selected the films, and Mark Shanahan, professor of public communications and media studies at Fordham University.

French Masterpieces from the MET displayed at the MFA
It's here folks! Yes, you've seen the billboards and heard the buzz. This weekend the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, became one of only 2 cities in the world, and the ONLY museum in the United States, to host the Met´s treasured collection of French masterpieces while the galleries undergo renovation. And we couldn't be more gracious hosts. The Masterpieces of French Painting from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1800-1920 is an extraordinary display of 135 paintings, including masterpieces by van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Ingres, Bonnard, Renoir, Degas, Cézanne, Manet, Corot, Seurat, Courbet, and Monet. (!!!) Can you tell we are a little excited?

tickets: Admission will require a timed-entry ticket that also includes general admission to the museum and an audio tour of the exhibition. General admission, weekdays, to the exhibition will be $15 for adults and $10 for children 6-18, students, and senior adults (65+); admission will be free for children 5 and under. On weekends, admission will be $18 for adults and $11 for children 6-18, students, and senior adults (65+).

Alliance Francaise Presents French Lecture Series: Antoine Plante
Join Houston's Alliance Francaise for this lecture series sponsored by the Consulat Général de France, Patrick Berron, Consul Général, on diverse subjects in the arts and in science at the Alliance. A presentation on Rameau's "Pygmalion" by Antoine Plante, Artistic Director, Mercury Baroque Orchestra. Mercury Baroque will present a suite from Les Indes Galantes and the fully staged opera-ballet Pygmalion by J.P. Rameau on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007 at 8 p.m. at the Wortham Center. Artistic Director Antoine Plante will speak on the production at this rencontre-du-consulat.

Kobain presents: William K. Stidham's Sacret Heart Series
The Sacred Heart series is a collection of iconic paintings imbibed with the sacred heart imagery that William grew up with in the Catholic Church. Each of his sacred hearts have touched the world with the gifts that they have been given. Using their heart energy, these artists and shape shifters were able to change people's lives through the use of their gifts. See the collection displayed at a special event this Friday at Kobain.

HMNS Presents: Love Bugs
Taking a hint from that famous Ross & Rachel moment, the Museum of Natural Science attempts make the museum romantic for couple for a pre-Valentine Day event. Pianist Jason Moran returns to his native Houston with a multimedia performance inspired by the work of visual artist Adrian Piper. Commissioned by Minneapolis’ Walker Arts Center, Milestone features Moran’s trio with bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Nasheet Waits.

Justice for All: Artists reflect on the Death Penalty
This unique and controversial art show includes 55 pieces, selected by three jurors, who reviewed more than 700 submissions from more than 300 artists from 19 countries for the show. The 55 artists selected for the show includes artists from Houston and other Texas cities, as well as other U.S. states, plus France, Germany, Canada and The Netherlands. Professional artists are the focus of the show, but also includes 13 works from people currently on Texas death row. The exhibit includes paintings, drawings, sculpture, videos and installation art. Back to thier 2nd Sunday of the Month schedule, the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance takes us into the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetary. Be on the look out for the likes of the great philanthropist Jesse H. Jones; Walter W. Fondren, one of the co-founders of Humble Oil & Refining Company (now part of Exxon/Mobil); Niels and Mellie Esperson, whose namesake buildings are some of the most beloved architecture in downtown Houston; lumberman John Henry Kirby; and William Ward Watkin, architect of Rice University, the original Museum of Fine Arts and many other important Houston buildings.
