An update to this morning's story about Lisa Marie Nowak, the astronaut who was arrested yesterday after a bizarre cross-country drive to confront a woman she believed was after the fellow astronaut she had a crush on: Police in Florida are charging Nowak with attempted first-degree murder. The charge was announced after Nowak appeared in court this morning on charges of attempted kidnapping, attempted vehicle burglary with battery, destruction of evidence and battery.
Orange County, Florida, Judge Mike Murphy ordered Nowak to wear a GPS device on her ankle that won't let her travel east of Orange County where her victim, Colleen Shipman, lives. In court, Nowak shook her head to indicate she didn't intend to kidnap or injure Shipman; her attorney said evidence showed intent to batter, but not to kill, Shipman. "That's one way to interpret the facts," Murphy said, according to the Orlando Sentinel. "Another way to interpret the facts is that it could be a lot worse than it was."
