lourve.jpgAlliance Francaise Lecture Series: Antoine Plante

First the MET lends us French Masterpieces and now tonight's Lecture at l'Alliance Francaise. Houston's gone Haute for the Frenchies! Touche! (Ok, cliche). Actually, we were really just inspired by this cool pic of the Winged Victory from local photog Mark Austin.

As part of the lecture series sponsored by the Consulat Général de France, Patrick Berron, Consul Général, on diverse subjects in the arts and in science at the Alliance, Antoine Plante, Artistic Director, Mercury Baroque Orchestra, presents on Rameau's "Pygmalion."

Mercury Baroque will present a suite from Les Indes Galantes and the fully staged opera-ballet Pygmalion by J.P. Rameau on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007 at 8 p.m. at the Wortham Center.

Artistic Director Antoine Plante will speak (yes, in French) on the production at this rencontre-du-consulat. (Anyone? anyone?).

““France in 1748 was rich ground for music and dance. The Enlightenment was producing thinkers like Voltaire and Diderot,” remarks Plante. "Yet one thing remained constant, the human fascination with love.”
A reception follows the presentation and there is no charge. Gratis! Libre!
