Eat, Drink, Be Merry, and Conserve

A Celebration of Conservation

oceanaire.jpgHoustonist loves our adult beverages and we love our fine dining, but when you can do both of these things at once and call it charity, it becomes more than love, it becomes event obsession. Now that you know this about us, we can introduce you to our current event obsession, happening tonight at The Oceanaire Seafood Room.

The Oceanaire Seafood Room is one of the newest additions to the Houston restaurant scene. It is located in the renovated section of the Galleria, where two stories of old Lord & Taylor have been transformed into two stories of posh restaurants and boutiques. The décor is modeled after a 1930’s ocean liner, the food is flown in daily from various locations around the world, and the wine list is world class. What does all of this mean? It means you can have an amazing glass of wine, not have to worry about icebergs, and order tuna that was more than likely swimming the previous day.

Though Houstonist enjoys the finer things in life, the “fame” and “fortune” we gain by showing the world what happens in Houston can have trouble translating into daily fine dining. So in between our sparse visits to the fine dining establishments of Houston, we find ways to eat well and drink on the cheap. Lucky for us, The Oceanaire is also looking to do something nice for others, and will be holding an event tonight to benefit the Coastal Conservation Association of Texas.

The Coastal Conservation Association of Texas is the largest marine conservation group in the state and calls “The Oil Capital of the World” home. Just last year CCA Texas spent over one million dollars* on projects aimed at conserving Texas’ marine resources. Although you may not recognize the name, you have probably seen the orange fish sticker on the back of various cars, trucks, and boats throughout the state.

So there is the background, here is the skinny on the event. The Oceanaire Seafood room is hosting "A Celebration of Conservation: featuring great wines and fruits of the sea." In laymen's terms, this means that for a $25 donation to CCA Texas, you will receive wine, beer, and heavy hors devours from 7pm until 9pm this evening. A cash bar will also be available for you liquor lovers. Space is limited, and already filling fast, so if you are interested in attending, please see the contact information below.
