If driving along Main Street through the Medical Center is in your weekend plans, we're sorry, but you're going to have to come up with an alternate route: The northbound lanes of Main between University and MacGregor will be closed all weekend for the installation of a construction crane. The closure starts at 7 p.m. today and will continue until 5 a.m. Monday.
We assume the crane is being erected for construction of the new, 1.5 million-square-foot Methodist Outpatient Center, a 22-story building that will front on Main Street. It's being built on the site of Methodist's West Pavilion, which was imploded last summer. Houstonist is never one to waste a good implosion video, so here: Knock yourselves out.
This weekend, northbound traffic on Main will be detoured to Fannin during the closure.
